Spicy Whiskey GInger

Warm up this winter with a delicious and easy 3 ingredient cocktail. We love the fun syrups from our neighbors down south at Portland Syrups. They always use real ingredients, source things locally and make everything by hand, just like us!

2 oz Skagit Gold Straight Rye Whiskey
1 oz Spicy Ginger Syrup from Portland Syrups
2 oz fresh squeezed orange (about the amount of juice in 1 medium sized orange)
Garnish with orange slice

Add ice and ingredients to shaker. Shake. Strain into glass full of fresh ice.  Garnish with an orange slice.

It has been our pleasure to work with this special rare grain; first described in 1924 by J. F. Rock of the National Geographic Society, collected at the 9000 foot level in the Tibetan Steppes.
Purple Tibetan Karma Barely (PTKB) is grown in small plots in the Willamette Valley, OR and now, also in the Skagit Valley, WA. It is an heirloom grain, not genetically modified (non-GMO) nor hybridized. At its source in the Himalayans, this nourishing grain is the cornerstone of national dishes; widely used in soups, noodles and other Tibetan meals.
We acquired PTKB from Hunton Farms in the Willamette Valley in 2012 and sent it on to Wayne Carpenter. Carpenter, founder and visionary behind Skagit Valley Malting, was developing radically new techniques for malting, an industry changed little since 1880. Our PTKB was an early “test” during his design & development phase. Soon, our Barley was delivered back to Mischief Distillery, in both toasted and malted forms. From these, Purple Tibetan Ancient Grain Straight Rye Whiskey was born.

We made the Whiskey according to our high-rye formula (80% rye & 20% PTKB) in 400 pound mashes; then fermented with whiskey yeast developed specially for us by White Labs (organic). After fermentation, we transfer the entire mash (grain & liquids) to the still.
Unique to this Whiskey, we added 5 pounds of toasted Purple Tibetan directly to the still prior to distilling. We wish we had some distillate for you to taste – the toasted barely contributes distinctive and positive differences to the “white dog” when added at that point.

Barrel Aging:

Purple Tibetan Ancient Grain Straight Rye Whiskey aged in new American White Oak barrel, #3 char and aged traditionally.
We decanted the barrels, filtered (not chilled-filtered), then bottled at 101 proof, for a limited release.

Sparkling Brandy & Spice

This is a delightful and sophisticated little cocktail featuring Portland Syrups Autumn Spice and Fremont Mischief’s Urban Foraged Small Batch Copper Pot Distilled Brandy. It is a perfect cocktail to serve up for your next holiday gathering. 


2 oz. Mischief Urban Foraged Brandy
1 oz. Autumn Spice Syrup from Portland Syrup
1/2 0z. fresh Lemon Juice (about 1/2 a lemon)
Top with Prosecco or Champagne
Garnish with a slice of lemon wrapped around a Luxardo cherry

Add ice, Brandy, Autumn Spice and fresh lemon juice to shaker. Shake till chilled. Strain into a coupe glass, top with bubbly and garnish, enjoy!

Gobble Up Seattle 2019

Saturday November 23rd and Magnuson Park Hanger 30. Join our friends Portland Syrups at the 3rd Annual Gobble Up Seattle! At Gobble Up, shoppers will find innovative, local treats ranging from macarons to forest-infused spirits to cooking sauces to shrubs to bone broth, uniquely flavored nut butters to spirited ice cream, as well as handmade kitchenware like cutting boards, oven mitts, and reusable wax food wrap. This show is happening just prior to Thanksgiving, taking advantage of the kick-off to the holiday shopping season and making this a great event to buy holiday ingredients and treats, for both home cooks and chefs alike—especially those looking to highlight locally made products.

Fremont Music Festival & Festivus

The Fremont Music Festival, at Fremont Mischief Distillery, will take place on Saturday, December 7th from 2pm – 10:30pm

This FREE, all-ages, live music event is a great opportunity to drop in at our neighborhood distillery during your day of Holiday Shopping around Fremont, or just because you need to sample some excellent Mischief spirits!

The bands performing range from the most excellent School of Rock House Bands from Greenwood and Lynnwood, opening at 2pm and playing amazing rock classics, to Fremont’s own surf band, The Evanstones, closing the show. We will have Villain Plays The Victim, another local band, playing hard rock with a mature sound. For outrageous fun, and a tremendous emotional sound, the Seattle Video Game Orchestra will play all those tunes you know but have forgotten from your misspent youth.

Festivus Festivities

The Fremont Music Festival is one of several Fremont Festivus activities going on over the weekend of Dec 6th – 8th, and like all Festivus events, it is entirely FREE! 

Fremont has 100s of shops, restaurants, nightclubs and entertainments going on and Festivus is the weekend we show our seasonal best!!

English Rose

Brighten up your Friendsgiving with a sophisticated little cocktail worthy of sharing. Featuring Portland Syrup’s Rose Cordial, Fragrant, whole dried rose blossoms and petals are slow-brewed in stages with dried rose hips, to capture the flower’s essence at several stages of its expression. It is sweet and tart with a subdued but complex floral character, and is extremely versatile. A premium small-batch syrup brewed by hand in Oregon with seasonally-selected whole ingredients and natural sweeteners with 40% less sugar than a typical mixer.


1 1/2 oz Fremont Mischief Gin
3/4 oz Rose Cordial
1/2 oz lemon (juice from aprox 1/2 of a lemon)
top with your favorite Prossecco or Champagne
Garnish with dried rosebuds or a lemon twist

Make it ahead of time!

Prepare the base cocktail ahead of time and put it in the fridge, then when your friends come over, just pour the cocktail in glass and top off with bubbles and you are good to go!


1 1/2 cups (or 12 ounces) Fremont Mischief Gin
3/4 cups (or 6 ounces) Rose Cordial
1 cup (or 8 ounces) lemon juice (approximately 4 lemons)

1 bottle Prosecco or Champagne

Mix all cocktail ingredients together and put in a bottle in the fridge. Cocktail syrup will last in fridge for apron a week. Will make 8 servings. To serve each cocktail add 2 3/4 ounces to a champagne glass, and add aprox. 3 1/4 ounces bubbly.

Fremont’s Sleigh Rye

This cocktail is simple, festive, and a crowd pleaser! You will need:

2 oz Fremont Mischief Straight Rye Whiskey
2 oz cranberry juice (take it up a notch and make your own fresh Cranberry Juice!)
1 oz simple syrup (equal parts water and sugar, cooked until mixture is completely liquid)
1 oz lemon juice
3 Dashes of Fee’s Old Fashioned Aromatic bitters
Egg white
Pinch of salt

Put all ingredients into a shaker (without ice first) and vigorously shake for 5 seconds
Add ice to shaker and shake for an additional 10 seconds. Strain into your favorite coupe or martini glass and garnish with a cranberry/thyme skewer. Sip, chill, and enjoy some Mischief!

Make your own Fresh Cranberry Juice!
Take 1 lb bag of cranberries, rinse them then place in sauce pan.
Add 2 cups water
1/3 cup sugar
Zest of 1 lemon
Simmer for 10 minutes. 

Let cool
Smush the berries with a masher, or pop in the blender (make sure they have cooled first, blenders don’t like hot things)
Will last a week or two. If it is too thick, you can add more water. 

Plum Rumble

This cocktail is elegant and full of fall! Using two of our award winning spirits, it will warm you up from the inside out.

You will need:
1 oz. Straight Rye Whiskey
1 oz. Brandy
0.5 oz. Sweet Vermouth
0.5 oz. Honey Market Plum syrup
2 dashes old fashioned bitters
Garnish with orange peel

Honey market plum syrup:
One cup honey
One cup water
1/4 cup Market Spice tea (from the world famous Pike’s Place Market)
One plum sliced with pit

Combine honey and water in pot/sauce pan on medium heat and stir until combined. Add tea and plum to honey syrup, reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes stirring often. Let cool enough to handle, then strain into bottle or separate cooling container. Let cool completely before using. 

Cocktail Recipe:

Put all ingredients except for orange peel, into a mixing glass, fill with ice, stir, and strain up into coupe or martini glass. Garnish with an orange peel and enjoy! we reccomend this one for your upcoming Holiday parties, or just relaxing by the fire.
